I have owned a table for about 10 years and have played in some clubs lightly but never gotten into real competitive playing, so when I saw folks with table tennis robots either at clubs or in homes, I figured it was only for he more dedicated players and not someone like me. Because other equipment is so expensive, I figured I might as well stick to the basics and focus on improving my game before I took the robot leap. A colleague of mine surprised me one day when he told me he had a robot on his personal table, he was acting almost embarrassed by the fact until I told him how envious I was since I figured he must be so good that he competes. But I learned that he was very similar to me, loved the sport but not competing. So I figured, what the heck, I might as well make the investment and maybe that would be what I would need to really step up my game.
As it turns out, I have owned my robot Newgy robot for about 6 months and I haven’t been as concerned with getting up the nerve to compete as I thought I would. Of course it would be great if I could develop my skills that much, but I’ve found that the perks are really bonding with my family and friends. When I first set up the device my two boys were much more excited than I was to play with the final product and see all the features. After the initial awe and tendency to simply mess with the thing wore away, the boys were more open to learning about the sport than ever before. It became much easier to show them how intense table tennis can be and my one son has even taken to training with the robot on his own just to get a feel for it.
In addition to this, when family friends stop by, I get a lot of compliments on my dedication and almost everyone wants to play with the robot to see how it functions. It has really turned into a conversation starter that I wouldn’t have imagined folks would be so interested in before I purchased it. Also, when there aren’t friends or family around, it’s nice to be able to play in the comfort of my own home without having to be fully dedicated to club play. I can even set up my robot to hit certain shots that I normally have trouble with so I can focus and improve my skills and really impress those that I play with. If you’re thinking about making the investment, I would highly recommend it. You don’t have to be a professional to get your money’s worth.
