There is no doubt about it, we ping pong players like to have a good time and joke around. I mean what since is there in going on and on in life if you cannot laugh and have fun, you know? That is why I love hanging out with other ping pong players, because we are all pretty funny people overall. We do not mind sharing some of the funny though, and it is clear that there are a lot of people out there with great senses of humor whether they play ping pong or not.

Today I was just perusing the internet when I found a very funny spoof on professional ping pong that was done by Redbull. It is a short video that features the basketball player Blake Griffin talking about prepping to play ping pong. It’s a good thing the NBA lockout ended because who knows if he would be that good at ping pong.

Watch the video and have some laughs!

Maybe we cannot all play table tennis all day long, but in an ideal world it would be that way. Most of us have to work during the day, and being able to take a break every once in a while is not something to miss out on. Many companies offer up some fun for break time and that includes having a ping pong or table tennis table set up in break areas. Not only do these tables offer up a fun way to spend a fifteen minute break, but they have a lot of other perks as well. So if your employer provides you and your co-workers with the opportunity to get in on the ping pong action, take a break and have some fun.

Playing ping pong with a co-worker can be a team building exercise. Companies spend a lot of money on team building exercises and activities because it has been proven that teams who work together typically perform fat better than those who do not. When you are playing a rousing game of ping pong, you and your opponent are sharing an experience that will likely create a work bond.

Just a fifteen minute game of table tennis can burn around 50 calories for an average sized man or woman. A lot of jobs out there require you to be seated while you are working. Whenever you get a chance to move around and stretch those limbs, do it! Table tennis is the perfect way to move around a bit.

We all have moments where we feel burned out and maybe even bored. It’s times like those when my brain seems to shut down completely. There is an easy fix to get back on track though. Take your break and take your mind off of your work with ping pong. You will come back to your desk feeling rejuvenated and ready to finish your work.

Last week the news of Cornelius E. “Neil” Smyth passing away evoked great emotion in all of us here. Neil was an amazing man who made great contributions to the sport of table tennis during his lifetime. Before he even made his impact on this sport though he lived an incredible life with a unique career path. While his love of sports and involvement in our favorite sport table tennis is the primary reason that we all knew about Neil, his life was so much more. So today we will remember Neil Smyth the man and the table tennis lover.

Education – Neil Smyth’s education was very important to him. He was dedicated to his higher education and school. In 1946 he graduated from the Wharton School of Business of University of Pennsylvania. When he graduated, he did so as a member of the NROTC. He then went on to make great achievements in his professional life.

Career – The first job that Neil Smyth held was in Cairo, Egypt with the Navy. He was the youngest officer in Navy history to hold the office of Assistant Naval Attache’. Even after Smyth was released to inactive duty, he continued in the Reserves. He was an Internal Auditor for Pan Am Airways, and then moved on to the Intercontinental Hotels Corporation to serve as the Chief Accountant. Puerto Rico held his next position as the CFO of El Conquistador Hotels. Later he ended up in Las Vegas and served many different positions at both Caesars Palace and Sands Hotel & Casino. He helped to revolutionize many of the softwares used in casinos and hotels.

Personal – Family was very important to Neil Smyth as well. With his first wife, who lost her battle with cancer, they had six children. He is survived by those six children, a wife, and two step-children. The family also includes 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Table Tennis – The sport of table tennis was another passion for Neil Smyth. He actually co-founded the US National Table Tennis Championships. He is also a part of the US Table Tennis Hall of Fame and the California Table Tennis Hall of Fame. He served as the President of the Las Vegas Table Tennis Association, Vice President of the US Table Tennis Foundation, and more.

Like many other sports out there, when people think about table tennis, they usually think of it as a men’s sport. Unfortunately people fail to forget that women are also contributors to the amazing sport that is called table tennis. In fact, the women are quite competitive and could maybe even hold their own against some of the men in the game if it came down to it. If you do not believe me, then you are just plain full of it. I even have some proof to back up that statement. Here are some videos of women participating in some table tennis events. Just take a look and see what they are made of.

This video gives you a look at the final game of the Women’s Singles Semifinals in College table tennis. These girls are quite awesome.

How about a little doubles action with the World Table Tennis Championships of 2011 in Rotterdam. Watch those women play table tennis like it’s nobody’s business!

The 2011 North America Cup featured some of the greatest women in the game of table tennis. These two women are surely no exception. There speed and accuracy is impressive for any competitor at their level.

I have owned a table for about 10 years and have played in some clubs lightly but never gotten into real competitive playing, so when I saw folks with table tennis robots either at clubs or in homes, I figured it was only for he more dedicated players and not someone like me. Because other equipment is so expensive, I figured I might as well stick to the basics and focus on improving my game before I took the robot leap. A colleague of mine surprised me one day when he told me he had a robot on his personal table, he was acting almost embarrassed by the fact until I told him how envious I was since I figured he must be so good that he competes. But I learned that he was very similar to me, loved the sport but not competing. So I figured, what the heck, I might as well make the investment and maybe that would be what I would need to really step up my game.

As it turns out, I have owned my robot Newgy robot for about 6 months and I haven’t been as concerned with getting up the nerve to compete as I thought I would. Of course it would be great if I could develop my skills that much, but I’ve found that the perks are really bonding with my family and friends. When I first set up the device my two boys were much more excited than I was to play with the final product and see all the features. After the initial awe and tendency to simply mess with the thing wore away, the boys were more open to learning about the sport than ever before. It became much easier to show them how intense table tennis can be and my one son has even taken to training with the robot on his own just to get a feel for it.

In addition to this, when family friends stop by, I get a lot of compliments on my dedication and almost everyone wants to play with the robot to see how it functions. It has really turned into a conversation starter that I wouldn’t have imagined folks would be so interested in before I purchased it. Also, when there aren’t friends or family around, it’s nice to be able to play in the comfort of my own home without having to be fully dedicated to club play. I can even set up my robot to hit certain shots that I normally have trouble with so I can focus and improve my skills and really impress those that I play with. If you’re thinking about making the investment, I would highly recommend it. You don’t have to be a professional to get your money’s worth.

You’ll never believe the latest fad catching heat in the hot Miami sun. Would you believe us if we told you it was pingpong?

The phenomenon, which got it’s start in New York City, thanks to Susan Sarandon’s pingpong bar, SPiN, which opened last year, has migrated down to South Florida where clubs are boasting pingpong tables.

Bar games have seen a recent surge in popularity. Old favorites like darts and pool have regained their popularity among bar hoppers, and now we can add ping pong to the list. SLAM Table Tennis Club in Palm Beach is one of the newest bars catching onto the craze. Chalk, another south beach pingpong inspired club is set to open by the end of summer.

These aren’t your typical “sport bars”, either. They are elaborate nightclubs offering a full bar, Las Vegas style light shows, and DJs. Don’t believe us? Just take a peak at SPiN New York’s Website.

It’s a very interesting trend, but we’re behind it 100%. After all, it incorporates our love for pingpong into our nightlife. Personally, we can’t think of anything better.

Will Bayley, 22, was born with a rare disorder called arthrogryposis. According to Wikipedia:

Arthrogryposis, also known as Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, is a rare congenital disorder that is characterized by multiple jointcontractures and can include muscle weakness and fibrosis. It is a non-progressive disease. The disease derives its name from Greek, literally meaning ‘curved or hooked joints’.

Will started playing table tennis at age 12. After being diagnosed with cancer as an eight-year-old , and after years of chemotherapy, his grandmother bought him a table tennis table to keep him active during his recovery and it has turned into a full time vocation.

Despite his health complication, Will is ranked second in the world, and favored to win gold at next year’s Paralympics. In order to prepare for the games, Will can be cound training rigorously for 6 hours a day. He is confident in his chances, but he isn’t slacking off.

“I’ve been training really hard and I’m thinking about going to China,” he said. “I’m training full-time in Sheffield at the moment, which is the national centre for table tennis.”

Currently, Will is training extra hard, and fighting to find more sponsorship. Training and traveling aboard can be expensive for any athlete, but it provides more growth opportunity.

“China is a really good place to train. Everyone plays table tennis there,” says Will.

Will is extremely optimistic about his future in table tennis, and looking forward to coming out on top at the Paralympics. As far as his disability goes, Will says, that it mainly affects his legs, but that he makes up for it with gym work. Will Bayley represented Great Britain in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, which he has described as being the best moment of his life.

We’re excited to see what Will Bayley will accomplish in the future!

We’re in favor of anything that incorporates the sport of table tennis and beer, so when we heard about the latest craze sweeping the nation, we couldn’t wait to write about it. The following is a quick guide to playing beer pong.

In order to play beer pong you will need a few essential items:

A ping pong table, or a wooden table that is slightly the same length as a normal ping pong table.

A pack of ping pong balls (at least 4 balls, but we recommend 6).

A pack of 24 plastic party cups (think Solo cups).

At least 4 people.

24 cans of beer.

Set Up

Divide yourselves into teams of 2.

Set up your table using the plastic cups like this:

Pour about 1/2 a cup of beer into each cup.

Fill your water cups with water.

Playing the Game

Basically, the object of the game is to toss your ball from your side of the table, and into one of your opponents’ cups.

If your ball lands into your opponents’ cup, they must drink that cup of beer.

You and your team mate get one throw per turn.

After your team’s two throws, the other team will attempt to do the same.

It is important to remember that every “house” is going to play by different rules.

For the complete set of rules. Visit BPong.com for official rules.
